Home School Students (10-12) who wish to participate on a varsity Hillcrest sports team must first register their home school with the Minnesota State High School League for each sport in which they would like to participate. Information for home schools about forming a cooperative agreement with Hillcrest can be found on the MSHSL website. More information about cooperative agreements is on the Membership Information Page under About MSHSL.
Download this form, Application for Cooperative Sponsorship [pdf], fill it out and bring it in to the Athletic Director at Hillcrest if you wish to form a home school cooperative with Hillcrest.
If Hillcrest agress to the application, it will be sent to MSHSL for approval. This must be done before the sports season starts. Home school students (grades 10-12) will be allowed to participate on a varsity team after Hillcrest and MSHSL approval. No home school students will be allowed to participate in varsity sports during their 9th grade year. (MSHSL rule)
After approval, the home school student will need to complete the same sports registration process as does a regular student.
If a home school student wishes to attend Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, they need to know that the Minnesota State High School league transfer rule will be in effect for their transfer: home school to Hillcrest. Students who transfer will be ineligible for varsity sports for one year from the date of transfer. This does not apply to home school students who transfer to Hillcrest at the beginning of their 9th grade year.
The Home School athletic fee for Junior High students is $160.
For High School students (9-12) the fee is $280.
